Performing and Teaching Ensemble
Dancing Legacy is a network of independent dancers committed to honoring and sharing the American dance legacy. The ensemble supports the Institute's activities by engaging varied populations through performances, workshops, and residencies.
While the choreographer's creative supremacy is rarely questioned, Dancing Legacy recognizes the performer's vital role as the primary messenger of the art form. In addition to this presentational function, the performer/creative collaborator carries responsibility for passing on work. The ensemble actively integrates these aspects by gathering people who are dedicated to the simultaneous pursuit of performance and education. Dancing Legacy members promote a holistic definition of dancers that encompasses interpreter, creator, teacher, student, and thinker. |

The performing repertory includes Repertory EtudesTM, significant works of the 20th century, and contemporary choreography-the dance legacy being created in our own time. The ensemble uses the Legacy Methodology, a teaching framework designed to transmit a choreographer's intention, nuance, and style. Dancing Legacy conveys the repertory and methodology through presentation, instruction, coaching, discussion, speech, text, score, and digital media. The resulting blend is a rich brand of kinesthetic storytelling. |
