The Winter Dance Concert features Goin' to Chicago (excerpt from Getting There) by Billy Siegenfeld. Dancer Magazine has credited Siegenfeld with "inventing the first genuine jazz technique in forty years." His style makes dancers "perform every movement with rhythmic clarity, physical power, and an infectiously joyous, fun sense of being alive," according to percussionist/composer David Yoken. Maggie Ewing and Elisa Osborne will perform their playful duet #1 to live music by percussionist Brian Osborne. The program also includes two "Etudes" from the Institute's Collection, "Bushasche Etude" by Pearl Primus and "Ecce Etude" by Danny Grossman. Works by Victoria Fortuna, Sita Frederick, and Tina Louise Vasquez round out the evening. Along with dynamic SOLO ARTISTS premiering with the Institute, returning companies to the Concert's intergenerational roster are the exhilarating and commanding DANCE EXTENSION and the innovative and luminous DANCING LEGACY.
